In 1860 starts Ballantyne-Africa expedition, on the one hand to examine trade opportunities on the east coast of Africa, and obtain information about the slave trade in Central Africa. The group is headed by the two Ballantyne siblings, the female doctor Robyn and her brother Zouga who have other personal purpose of the trip. Robyn will find his father, the famous explorer Fuller Ballantyne, while Zouga will accumulate a fortune in diamonds and ivory. Both of them felt that their destiny is in this vast mysterious dark continent dragons with riches, adventures and passions. Wilbur Smith maintains the reader in an iron grip of tension and drama in this, one of his best novels.
